THE ONE WHERE I MAKE FRIENDS
I have been in Australia for all of three and a half days. It's been arguably the most relaxing three and a half days of my life. I made a few friends the last time I visited and have only seen one so far. They all went out last out and invited me to tag along. So I did. And it was amazing.
We went out in downtown Coolangatta which is a little beach town north of where I'm staying and south of Gold Coast - the nearest big city. I only knew 3 out of the group of girls but instantly hit it off with the bunch. I really felt like I was part of the squad and they welcomed me in with open arms.
I won't get too detailed about the happenings of the night but you can imagine that with drinks and dancing, it's wasn't boring at all. We ended the night going to a "pie shop" and it's not what you're thinking. They don't eat pumpkin pie at 2 in the morning. They are meat pies. And I'm currently not eating meat (even if I was I might have had to pass on the pie). I preferred the Maccas (McDonald's) run on the way home to get my "drunk food fix." A medium fry can do no wrong in the early morning hours.
I kept thinking how natural it all felt - being with this group. I feel like I really belong. I have close friends at home but this feels different. I feel so at home. They've invited me to a sleepover tonight and I can't remember the last time I've been to a formal sleepover. It has me jazzed.
I did it. Four days in and I made friends - real friends.
