THE ONE WHERE I MOVE TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD
I have made like Dorothy and followed the road to Oz. I only arrived a couple days ago and already feel so at home. I am currently settled in a tiny beach town called Kingscliff about an hour and a half from Brisbane, and forty-five minutes in either direction to Gold Coast (north) and Byron Bay (south).
My sweet friend, Madison swooped me from the airport and took me to the beach to get the most American thing I could think of -- Mexican food (with a margarita, of course). With a full belly I was totally ready for a nap. I had just wrapped up 72 hours of travel over 2 weeks and the fact that I was in a place just for a little while was so relaxing.
Life is so good here. Australians are so nice. I don't think I can emphasize it enough. But they are quite strange. They go barefoot in the grocery store. I'm pretty sure Americans would freak out if you saw someone walking around Publix or Kroger without any shoes on!
I think it's going to take some time to adjust to this new way of life. Being relaxed was never really my style, but I'm excited to give it a try. Not being in any rush to get anywhere to accomplish anything. Just living. It's already been my instinct to check my bank account and make sure I'll be ok with a job and an apartment and traveling. But I've never really let myself settle in a place. I'm really excited to do that.
This is the one where I move to Australia and truly live.
